This story is about the life of Joseon dancer, musician and poet, Hwang Jin Yi, who seeks perfection in her art relentlessly and the hardship facing women due to their lowly social status.
Episode 1: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 1
Baek Moo, the leader of a courtesan troupe, needs to find young talented girls to join the group or else the group will be nearing their end. Hwang Jin Yi, a 10 year old in custody of the village's temple, sees the troupe performing and is mesmerized by the courtesan arts. So, mesmerized, she decides she wants to leave the temple and learn those arts, even though that's what her mother, also a courtesan, wanted to avoid when left her in the monks' care.
Episode 2: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 2
Hwang Jin Yi escapes from the temple and goes to the gisaeng troupe's location. She joins the troupe and starts training.
Episode 3: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 3
Jin Yi meets Kim Eun Ho while she's looking for her painting, which the wind had blown away. While practicing, she feels driven to find the best way to move her feet while dancing and, after a few trials and errors, decides to learn how to walk the tightrope. Kim Eun Ho and Hwang Jin Yi accidentally kiss and later he seeks her company.
Episode 4: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 4
There's an order for all troupes to choose their most talented and beautiful trainee and send them to the Royal troupe. Baek Moo proposes for a competition to decide who's the best troupe. Eun-Ho and Jin Yi get closer. Her mother fears, Jin Yi will have her same fate. His mother finds out he has been seeing Jin Yi.
Episode 5: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 5
Eun Ho's mother goes to look for Hwang Jin Yi after she finds out he has been seeing her. The head mistress intervenes. She later teacher Jin Yi a way, other than crying, to deal with heartbreak. Eun Ho, even after every thing that has happened, cannot give up his love got Jin Yi.
Episode 6: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 6
The troupe was told when the gisaeng competition will take place. But to be able to participate, the gisaeng trainees will have to "raise their hair." This caused Jin Yi to be torn between the love she feels for Eun Ho and the life she chose for herself as a child because of her love for the gisaeng arts.
Episode 7: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 7
Jin Yi decides she wants to leave the gisaeng life. Baek Moo says she'll let her do as she pleases on one condition; she agrees to take up a challenge. Hwang Jin Yi practices to perfect her skills. While Bu Yong gets rejected by a man who thinks she's not worthy enough for him to raise her hair.
Episode 8: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 8
Eun Ho delivers a letter of intent to the governor which only fuels the governor's anger towards Hwang Jin Yi. One of the courtesan trainees dies. Eun Ho goes to talk to his father, only to find out he has gone to the banquet which was celebrated ahead of time. Eun-Ho's father offers to raise Hwang Jin Yi's hair.
Episode 9: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 9
Hwang Jin Yi loses the challenge, but she still runs away to meet Eun Ho. Eun Ho is surprised by his mother when he's trying to sneak out to meet Jin Yi. They never get to meet and, as a result of being in the rain all night, they both fall ill.
Episode 10: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 10
Four years have passed since Eun Ho's death and Hwang Jin Yi, now named Myung Wol, has become one of the most sought after gisaeng. She meets Kim Jung Han, who becomes the new Minister of Rites. He tries to save Korea's music from being destroyed by China.
Episode 11: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 11
Hwang Jin Yi's wit and poetic talents win over the Chinese ambassador. She decides she wants to learn the sword dance. Kim Jung Han moves to the village to carry out the king's command.
Episode 12: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 12
Myung Wol is given a special intensive training in private, which flares up Bu Yong's anger. She manages to learn the Sword dance to perfection in less than two months and this worries the gisangs of Baek Moo's troupe. Someone attempts to hurt Myung Wol.
Episode 13: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 13
Kim Jung Han gets hurt while saving Hwang Jin Yi. He, also, starts suspecting Baek Moo and her "girls " of being behind the attempt to hurt Hwang Jin Yi since he thinks they might have the biggest motive.
Episode 14: Hwang Jin Yi Episode 14
Jini is left alone on the stage due to Buyong's conspiracy. Jini overcomes it with her wit, but the dance fails.(Source: Kocowa)
