A coming-of-age story of a group of youths who grew up together. In the summer of 2007, exactly one year before the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, the family members of the Shude faculty (bus company) could finally move together and say goodbye to the tube-shaped apartments which were loaded with their sweet memories like a symphony of cooking utensils. They were going to move into the brand-new and unfamiliar residential quarters with their new hopes. And a series of things about growing up, dreams and affections that happened among Huang Chengzi, Tan Song, Zhu Jinxiao, Chen Zui and He Jinzhao would become the sweetest marks of the Shude faculty quarters. Episode 1: Lovely Us Episode 1
The story begins with Huang Chengzi and her four friends Tan Song, Jin Zhao, Jin Xiao and Chen Zui enjoying one last get together at their old building before moving into a new one. On relocation, Chengzi's mother makes a set of rules to help save money. Chengzi asks for a new bike as her current one was broken, but she doesn't let her or her dad get one. When Chengzi is asked to help move the rest of their old belongings to their new home, she finds an envelope with 800 Yuan. Jin Zhao suggests a few ways to find out whether the money belonged to her mom or dad. She hides the money away and finally finds that it was her Dad's. He had been planning to use it for getting her a new bike. Their joy is short lived after the money is accidentally discovered by their mom, who confiscates it. But, her father uses the money he had to get her a new one anyway. Chengzi takes Tan Song for a ride the next day and buys low quality locks for the it. On the other hand, Jin Xiao's and Jin Zhao's mother's birthday comes up, but both of them and her husband are occupied during that day. Jin Xiao decides to go for the concert of her favorite idol instead while Jin Zhao has to go for a Warcraft Game. Their mom spends the birthday alone and gets a visit from her own mother. On the way to the concert hall with Tang Song and Chen Zui, Jin Xiao decides to celebrate with her mother instead. The ticket is given to Chengzi. She had lost her bike earlier that day and was left in tears, but she decides to not waste the ticket and joins the boys. Episode 2: Lovely Us Episode 2
Chengzhi, Tan Song, Jin Zhao, and Jin Xiao go back to school after their vacation. The school decides to conduct a debate on the topic "Do Men or Women deserve more care?" Chenghzi and Tan Song are both in opposite teams and they do a trial debate at their home where the adults join in. Somehow the debate goes personal and they both fight. The topic of the debate is changed to Puppy Love and its good and bad effects. Having never had an experience in love, both Chengzhi and Tan Song have no idea about it. Jin Zhao makes a plan for them to "experience" puppy love and gives them a list of chores that couples do. All of them end up being a failure. Chengzhi gives up and goes to the store to buy drinks where she runs into an attractive boy. Episode 3: Lovely Us Episode 3
Chengzhi finds out that the person whom she had seen was Tan Ouyang, Tan Song's elder cousin. She attempts to catch sight of him multiple times by pretending to go to Tan Song for help. Jin Xiao helps her get better for her confession to Ouyang, but Tan Song and the boys mistake that her affection is towards him. He prepares to reject her in the best manner. Chengzhi invites everyone including Tan Ouyang for a meal out but discovers that he already has a girlfriend. Tan Song adds fire to a crestfallen Chengzhi by describing her as not gentle and she tries to act annoyingly cute to prove him wrong. He, Chengzhi, and Tan Ouyang along with his girlfriend go for a trip to the amusement park. Chengzhi learns to let go of her infatuation and Tan Song has a shock when he realizes that it was not him whom she liked. A series of misunderstandings accidentally lead him to believe that she is trying to commit suicide after the rejection. Episode 4: Lovely Us Episode 4
Tan Ouyang rescues a girl from being harassed by two men in front of Jin Xiao's shop. Jin Zhao, Chen Zi, Jin Xiao, Tan Song and Chengzi get help from Ouyang for their Maths Classes, but he seems to have forgotten his high school subjects. The parents decide on what to do and Jin Xiao's mother decides to send her to cram school. Meanwhile, Zhao, Song and Chenghzi decide to help each other with what subjects they are best at. However, this plan fails after both Chenghzi and Zhao get distracted several times. With 6 days remaining for the exams, they attend a motivational session by a Professor although Tan Song isn't convinced. It is later revealed that he was a swindler after they see the building shut down. Chen Zi waits for Jin Zhao in the evening to accompany her as there were rumors of a robber running about. While he is distracted, she has an encounter with the thief, but is saved by Ouyang. He is slightly upset about this, but hides it from his friends. Chengzi narrates how Ouyang became the ideal crush of the girls at the Shude Compound, but it was Jin Xiao for whom it lasted a very long time.
Episode 5: Lovely Us Episode 5
Chen Zui checks on Jinxiao through her mom who informs him that she hadn't been eating well. The five friends study hard for the upcoming exams. Zui and Jinxiao are given a chance to attend a study camp and gain five extra marks for Gaokao through it. But they had to score well in the midterm exams and only one of them could go. Zui purposefully doesn't complete his answers to give the opportunity to Jinxiao. Jinzhao, Chengzhi and Tan Song perform poorly for their exams. Chengzhi and Song devote themselves to studies as a result and can't be persuaded to attend anything enjoyable. Zui, Jinxiao and Jinzhao are invited to go to a Halloween Party at Ouyang's University and they decide to leave Chengzhi and Song out of it due to their self exile. However, both of them are angered by this and try to give out hints that they'd like to attend too. They desperately dress up in bedsheets as immortals from 'Spirited Away' to attend the party as a surprise, scaring many on the road. The party wraps up prior to their arrival and they embarass themselves. While complaining about what their friends did to them, Chengzhi accidentally reveals her crush on Ouyang. She hides herself away and he tricks her into coming out.
Episode 6: Lovely Us Episode 6
Still embarassed and angry about the Halloween Incident, Chenghzi decides to forgive Tan Song... if he was willing to get her a photo of Yao Haonan, a transfer student and also, a star basketball player. For the school message boards, he is ranked the 1st in the list of hottest school hunks while Tan Song and Chen Zui are behind him. Their own classmates consider them average although the girls of other classes try to get a peek at them. Slightly miffed about this, Tan Song asks around, comparing him and Yao Haonan. He desperately makes a plan to defeat him at basketball. Getting information from Yao's classmate, Jinzhao, Tan Song attempts to learn Chen Zui's habits and behavior so as to be in sync while playing, but they all fail. However, on the day of the match, Haonan cheats and Chenghzi fights with him. The rest of the girls lose their respect for him too and Tan Song and Zui top the school hunk list. Their happiness is transient as the girls catch sight of a handsome boy from another class and rush to him. Zui tells Song that their hearts are always in someone else's class.
Episode 7: Lovely Us Episode 7
Ouyang takes the five of them for a camping trip on New year's eve, which also happens to be his birthday. On their way, Chenghzi is forgotten on the road while they take a short break to go shopping. She later accidentally discovers a gift that Zui had bought for Jinxiao, whom he liked. Chenghzi promises to keep this a secret. Tan Song sees the two of them together and gets annoyed. He starts to realize that he is falling for her. Zui gives Jinxiao the gift and asks her to make a wish for him in his stead. While she is gone for the study camp, Ouyang leaves for to join the army. She rushes to the railway station at the last moment to see him off. Chengzhi narrates how a secret becomes more conspicuous when we try harder to hide them.
Episode 8: Lovely Us Episode 8
Tan Song confirms with Chen Zui about his relationship with Cheng Zi. Jin Zhao asks him if he has a crush on her which he strongly denies. He is worried that he has fallen in love with Cheng Zi. When she is partnered with Liu Gao Xu to help her with her studies, he becomes jealous and accompanies. He also indirectly takes care of her and waits for her late at night during a rainy day. Chen Zui and Jin Xiao are invited for a local TV Program as top students sharing their study tips. Another program about to begin shooting right after theirs lacks two more guests and the pair are picked to participate in "Love you 100%" Chen Zui honestly answers all the questions and confesses his feelings to her, although Jin Xiao is unaware of the truth behind his words. A photo of the pair is pinned on the show's notice board, which Chen Zui later picks up after everyone has left.
Episode 9: Lovely Us Episode 9
The gang decide how to evade the questions of their neighbors at the Shude Compound. Their clever replies are all in vain as everybody guesses how they'd performed. Jin Xiao and Jin Zhao's parents invite their grandmother to spend the Spring Festival with them. She finally arrives, but puts the family in an uncomfortable position as she had a habit of being extremely thrifty. Tan Song's relatives visit him and his grandparents. Chen Zui and his father are taught how to say no to people during the right time by his mother. Cheng Zi mistakenly believes that her parents are taking a trip to Chang Mai in Thailand and asks Tan Song to teach her Thai. However, it is her aunt Qing Mai who visits her. She and her mom visit their father with food during his late-night shift to celebrate Spring Festival with him. Tan Song's father returns. Cheng Zi narrates how one will always return home, however long it takes.
Episode 10: Lovely Us Episode 10
Debin, Tan Song's father, returns home after three years, but they'd seemingly grown apart. With their interactions becoming increasingly awkward, he shares his worries with his friends. Meanwhile his father attempts to be more strict to him and tries to obtain advices from TV shows. However, he is put down after seeing interact more freely with others except him. Tan Song is even more upset when he discovers that his father was going on a blind date. Chenghzi tells him that as long as Tan Song is present at home, his father would never forget his mom who had passed away when he was young. His father has a talk with Chenghzi about how his son feels about him and she offers him a few points to improve his relation. Debin attends a basketball game to cheer on Tan Song although he initially declined to attend. Later, he brings an album with photos of his wife and shares them with Tan Song. They realise that nothing can break their bond and Chengzi narrates how it is us who grow apart from our parents while they still wait for us to come back to them.
Episode 11: Lovely Us Episode 11
When Mr. Lin, an older neighbor of Shude compoud decides to leave for America to be with his son, the occupents are worried and sad about his departure. Chengzi and Tan Song fight over an MP4 which he was going to leave behind, but then decide against it after coming up with an idea. The five friends decide to record a video of the compound and everyone bidding their farewells. Mr. Lin leaves gifts for everyone and packs up although he doesn't want to leave. He had lived alone since wife had died a few years ago and he suffered from myocardial infarction. His son suddenly tells him that he was moving and his daughter who was still in China asks him to wait for a while as she was redecorating. Before either of them could see him again, he passes away after another attack. Chengzi narrates how most goodbyes are lonely and how we must try to be closer to the ones we love when they are still with us.
Episode 12: Lovely Us Episode 12
As the summer Olympics approaches, the Shude gang has an idea to attend the openig ceremony. However, Jinzhao's marks are too low and Chengzi is short on money. Zui and Jinxiao decide to coach Jinzhao so that he could pass the exams. He ultimately does pass them. Tan Song convinces Chengzi to sell all her old stuff, but the plan goes wrong. They end up earning the money by busking. All their plans are in vain as the tickets had been on sale since 2007 and got sold out by the time they were ready.
Episode 13: Lovely Us Episode 13
Still sad about missing out on the Olympics tickets, the five of them decide to participate in an event held by a local mall that was giving them out to the winner. They prepare their performances and manage to make it to the finals. However, the ticket is won by their own neighbour. Their effort is not in complete vain as they win the runner up prize: A flatscreen television. Chengzi narrates that the memory they made together was more important than the Olympics. The TV goes to Chengzi as the one at her home bad broken down. They watch the opening ceremony together and fall asleep. Tan Song falls asleep on Chengzi's shoulder and she narrates that she felt odd for the first time.
Episode 14: Lovely Us Episode 14
Chengzi is annoyed after hearing that Tan Song had walked Tang Wenqi, a girl from the cheerleading team home after he accidentally hit her with a ball. Chengzi overhears a conversation among two girls about how one of them was falling for their best friend. She is angry with Tan Song and tries to avoid him. Having received low marks for Maths, Chengzi's mother signs her up for cram school despite not having enough money to pay the tuition fees. Chengzi is dragged outside by her friend during an hour long break. Her mom sees her at the hair salon and questions her about it. Not listening to Chengzi's explanation, she gets angry and refuses to talk to her. They continue this for three days until her dad explains why her mom behaved this way and why Chengzi should understand her more. They reconcile. Both of her parents suddenly leave for a trip for her aunt's wedding and she is left alone at home. They tell her that they'd arranged for food from their neighbor. Chengzi doesn't eat and instead depends on junk food. Tan Song's grandma asks to check on her and asks him to stay overnight as she was all alone. He is more than pleased with this. Chen Zui, Jinxiao and Jinzhao join in with them. Chengzi falls sick and Tan Song rushes with her to the hospital. Chengzi narrates how many days with him such as this would end up becoming unforgettable days of her past and that she'd remember them for a long time.
Episode 15: Lovely Us Episode 15
The five frienda graduate. While on vacation, Chengzi's teacher asks her mom to send her for a Composition Contest in another city along with Liu Gaoxu, her tutor. Tan Song desperately convinces her parents to accompany her as she would be alone with him. He Jinzhao tells his mom that he was not going to repeat a year for Gaokao as he knows it was going to be in vain, however hard he tried. He tells her that he just wanted to do something that he is actually happy about and that not all things are meant for everyone. Chen Zui and Jinxiao visit the aquarium. Liu Gaoxu asks Tan Song whether he likes Chengzi to which he asks him to shut up. He later regrets his answer. When they are back at home, Gaoxu decides to confess his feelings to Chengzi at the science museum. Chen Zui sees Tan Song upset and asks him to chase after her, having discovered his feelings for him a long time ago.
Episode 16: Lovely Us Episode 16
Tan Song confesses his feelings to Chengzi and they officially get together. They hide this from Jinzhao when they run into him on their way back home. Jinxiao accidentally discovers it and questions both Zui and Tan Song about it. When she decides to confront Chengzi about this, Zui tries to block her and Jinzhao sees them together, coming to the conclusion that they were a couple. He joins Chengzi and tells her about how someone (Jinxiao and Zui) out of the 5 of them was dating. He proposes that they become a duo and confront the others about why they hid their relationship. Chengzi is in a fix as she was hiding hers from him too. Jinzhao decides to pair up Zui and Jinxiao and lock them up in their room. While they are alone, Jinxiao asks Zui is he'd confess to someone who was just a passerby in his life. Zui and Jinxiao visit the aquarium again and he discreetly confesses his feelings again, but Jinxiao doesn't get the hint. She is more happy when she comes to know Ouyang, Tan Song's cousin was going to be back. Zui asks her if she wants to know who the girl was and she replies that he can tell her when he is ready to. Tan Song narrates how all our wishes can't be fulfilled and some are left to be in deep sadness of loving someone alone. Chengzi and Tan Song's relationship is discovered by Jinzhao who feels betrayed. He punishes Tan Song by reading out his old diary and the rest of the gang beat him up for writing unsavoury opinions about them. Chengzi and the rest of the gang decides to be best friends in all their lifetimes. They meet again as adults at the same place in Shude Compound. Chengzi narrates how she'd always have Tan Song in the future with her and how she is never afraid of growing up as she believes she is never going to be lonely as she has her friends who would walk farther down the path with her. She believes that the world never lets down lovely people and that everyone is lovely.
