Lu Gui Chen is the heir of the nomadic Qingyang tribe and is sent to the Eastern Land as a hostage. He meets Ji Ye, an unfavoured illegitimate son who is training to become a warrior, and Yu Ran, the princess of the Winged tribe. The three become close friends, and the boys’ feelings for Yu Ran soon turn romantic. At the same time, powerful warlord Ying Wu Yi has been maintaining firm control over the Emperor, giving him unprecedented power over the nobles. Episode 1: Novoland: Eagle Flag Episode 1
The Qingyang tribe attacks the Zhenyan tribe and Asule learns that his real father is Lü Song, the Chief of Qingyang Tribe. Though weak and sickly, he becomes the crown prince by virtue of being the youngest son. To protect the Zhenyan tribe, now slaves, he chooses to be their leader and lives among them. In order to survive, he is taught martial arts using a machete and is given two loyal guards. General Tuoba from Xia Tang State visits with a proposal that benefits both Qingyang and Xia Tang. Episode 2: Novoland: Eagle Flag Episode 2
During a hunting trip, large wolves attack and Asule briefly transforms into a powerful warrior, killing a wolf with one strike. He's in a coma for a month when a stranger appears, revealing that Asule inherited the sacred blood of his ancestors which is too powerful for a child. The stranger suppresses Asule's power stating he and Asule are somehow connected. Leopard General Tuoba chooses Asule to marry the Princess of the lower state of Xia. Episode 3: Novoland: Eagle Flag Episode 3
In the aftermath of the attack, Gui Chen mourns Su Ma. After arriving in the city, he meets Ji ie and Yu Ran, helping to mediate the scuffle between the two. At the palace, the ruler Baili Jing Hong introduces the prefecture princess Baili Huan who is initially impressed with Gui Chen's appearance but quickly sours when she realizes he lacks the ambition to be Emperor of the Northlands. Episode 4: Novoland: Eagle Flag Episode 4
After discovering the truth about his lineage, Ji Ye asks Yi Tian Zhan of the Tianqu Warriors to teach him martial arts using the spear that was handed down from his grandfather. Ruler Jing Hong has ulterior motives for forming an alliance with the Northlands and decides to make Yu Ran a prefecture princess to marry Gui Chen. Yu Ran meets with Gui Chen to convince him that he should reject the marriage proposal from the ruler. The Li State begin attacking the border against Xia Tang State. Although the assassin who tried to kill Gui Chen is on the loose, he convinces Su Shun Qin to give him a tour of the city during the Ghost Festival. Yu Ran and Ji Ye meet again at a gambling hall and spend the day getting to know each other. Episode 6: Novoland: Eagle Flag Episode 6
Yi Tian Zhan and General Xi Yan meet to talk about the past. Ji Ye wants to win a martial arts contest so he can study at Ji Palace but is reluctant, fearing his brother will win. Yu Ran encourages him and he promises to give her the golden chrysanthemum if he wins. Su Shun Qin and Gui Chen run into General Xi Yan and are ambushed on their way back to the palace. Episode 7: Novoland: Eagle Flag Episode 7
The martial arts competition is supposed to be a friendly competition between Qingyan and Xia Tang to strengthen their alliance. Luo Zi Yan, an envoy from Li State, attends the contest for peace negotiations with ruler Jing Hong but he is rebuffed. After the contest, Yu Ran helps an injured Ji Ye who is then harassed by the jealous Prince Baili Yin. Gui Chen comes to Ji Ye's aid but soon becomes another target of Baili Yin's. The three, Yu Ran, Gui Chen, and Ji Ye, become good friends, having shared near death experiences. Ji Ye and Gui Chen enter the Ji Palace for training. Li State's attack at the Xia Tang border accelerates, so ruler Jing Hong cedes fifteen cities to ruler Wu Yi. The Grand Princess of the Yin Empire realizes that Wu Yi has eyes set on the Yin Empire and orders Jing Hong to stop Wu Yi's army at the border at all costs. Knowing Wu Yi's army is strong, Jing Hong devises countermeasures to strengthen Xia Tang army. Gui Chen, Ji Ye and Yu Ran visit a shop with items from the He Luo Tribe and find themselves seeing the past, present, and future. Shun Qin is injured trying to protect You Chang Ji's Blue Cloud Ancient Tooth Sword from Luo Zi. It's a race to Revelation City where the Ancient Stela Entry is the shortest path leading to the Yin Empire. Gui Chen and Ji Ye experience the horrors of the battlefield. The Xia Tang and Qingyang armies reach the Ancient Stela Entry and prepare for battle. Prince Ji hands over command of the renowned Qingyang Iron Buddha Calvary to Gui Chen who's facing an inward struggle. In the midst of battle, Ji Ye goes straight for the high commanders of the Li Army. Ji Ye and Gui Chen are badly injured after the face-off with Ruler Wu Yi. General Xi and Gui Chen remain to defend Ancient Stela Entry, while General Tuoba asks Ji Ye to accompany him back to the capital. The Crown Prince of Li State decides to attack Xia Tang, but Ruler Jing Hong makes a preemptive strike against Li State to force Wu Yi to retreat. The Crown Prince of Li's body arrives at Ancient Stela Entry, and his death is honored by the Li Army. The next day, Gui Chen is embittered that General Xi was ordered to stand down and let the Li Army through to Revelation City, meaning all the lives lost were in vain. He honors the Iron Buddha for their sacrifice and bravery, releasing their burden to protect him, so they can go home and be with family. Episode 14: Novoland: Eagle Flag Episode 14
Injured from the war with Li Army, Prince Baili Yin vents his anger and frustration on Shun Qin, pressing her to reveal his father's murderer. Ruler Jing Hong has doubts as to whether Baili Yin can wield his father's sword, while Tian Zhan puts pressure on General Xi to get the Blue Cloud Ancient Tooth Sword from Shun Qin. Zi Yan makes an enticing offer to Baili Yin that he just can't refuse. Gui Chen, Ji Ye, and Yu Ran are reunited and once again look at the Shell Mirror for a glimpse of the past, present, and future. Unhappy with what they saw in the Shell Mirrors, He Luo offers Yu Ran a black chain that will help avert disasters. Not having enough money, they run off with it. Tian Zhan seeks out Shun Qin for the sword, but General Xi arrives in time. He learns of the history between Shun Qin and General Xi. General Xi pleads with Shun Qin to leave the past behind. Baili Yin discovers how his father died and is outraged that he was betrayed by the Tianqu Warriors. Learning where the sword is hidden from Zi Yan, he kidnaps Yu Ran to lure Gui Chen and Ji Ye into fighting the guardians. Shun Qin realizes something is amiss when You Chang Ji's ring disappears. Gui Chen grieves for Shun Qin before coming to the stark realization that the sword chose him to be the leader of the Tianqu Warriors. Despite refusing to bear the responsibility, the Tianqu Warriors give him some time to process what has just happened. Yi Zan also makes his move to convince Gui Chen that he should join the Chenyue organization. General Tuoba is becoming suspicious of General Xi. Ji Ye is caught and is used as bait to capture Gui Chen. Although Gui Chen tries to save Ji Chen by himself to prevent further deaths, the Tianqu Warriors are slaughtered when they find him and try to protect him. To gain control over Gui Chen and form an alliance with Qingyang, Ruler Jing Hong offers to spare Ji Ye and the Tianqu Warriors if Gui Chen and Yu Ran agree to marry one other. Gui Chen and Yu Ran ponder what to do, but in their hearts, they both know they need to save Ji Ye at all costs. On the day of their marriage, Gui Chen is told Ji Ye's military rank is restored and that he's sent to the border to fight in battles. In reality, Ji Ye appears to be saved from execution, but it is clear his military rank has not been restored. Upset, Gui Chen did not inform Yu Ran he was heading for Revelation City, she traveled with her aunt to meet him there. Ji Ye and the other prisoners travel far away to rebuild the ancient plank walkway to mine the iron ore from the mountain. On the way to Revelation City, Gui Chen stops at Ancient Stela Entry to honor the soldiers who died in battle. He meets Lei Bi Cheng, leader of Chenyue, on the way, who reveals Gui Chen needs treatment for illness or it will eventually cause irreversible madness. Ji Ye discovers Gui Chen and Yu Ran are married and, in his anger, tries but fails to escape. He encounters a familiar face from his past. Gui Chen visits Bi Cheng to learn more about the madness in his blood, realizing he's a demon that began killing at 16. He is injured fighting against the Bare Tooth soldiers while trying to kill Bi Cheng and is greeted by the Grand Princess, Emperor, and Wu Yi when he arrives at the Palace. Bent on revenge, Ji Ye manages to escape the mountain. While recuperating from his injuries, Wu Yi imprisons him, allowing Princess Xiao Zhou to care for him. The Emperor buys Gui Chen's freedom by giving the royal funds for Wu Yi's military expenditures. He wants Gui Chen to support him in his endeavor to help the common people, but without his own loyal military, he is debilitated. While having dinner with Princess Xiao Zhou, Gui Chen and Yu Ran step out on the balcony where Ji Ye can see them. Out of sadness and jealousy, he gets drunk, fights with nobles, and is captured by Princess Ying Yu. Ying Yu tries different tactics to convert Ji Ye to be loyal to Wu Yi. Gui Chen knows his time is running out, so he brings the Emperor and Tian Zhan together to discuss exonerating the Tianqu Warriors in hopes that they can support one another. Ji Ye is brought to the water prison, where he remembers the torture he and his mother endured. Princess Ying Yu helps him get his revenge so long as he agrees to be her slave and train with the Li army. Gui Chen and Yu Ran see a much altered Ji Ye, which distresses Yu Ran immensely. Bi Cheng withdraws his employment as State Preceptor of Li and then tries to communicate with the Grand Princess but is rebuffed. There's an attempt to assassinate the Emperor, and the assassin's weapons point to the Li state. Wu Yi recommends a martial arts contest to replace the current Elite Guard for his failure to protect the Emperor. Wu Yi nominates Ji Ye to represent the Li state, but the warrior chosen by the Grand Princess to represent the Yin Empire mysteriously departs in fear upon seeing Tian Zhan. Gui Chen and Ji Ye battle it out, with one trying to understand if the other has changed, whilst the other trying to fulfill his slave contract. In declaring the Li army as the temporary Elite Guard for the Emperor, he also publicly exonerates the Tianqu Warriors. Yu Ran seeks out Ji Ye, letting him know the marriage with Gui Chen was to save his life and the imprisoned Tianqu Warriors, but this does not change his path. The grand princess colludes with Bi Cheng to regain her power over the Yin Empire and her youthful appearance. Gui Chen rushes to accompany Princess Xiao Zhou to meet with the lords of the empire and they are ambushed by the Bare Tooth Army. A friend comes to their aid just in time. At Correspondence Lake, Gui Chen and Xiao Zhou plead with the lords to accept the emperor’s decree that the Tianqu Warriors will not rebel or enact vengeance on the states. Upon returning to Revelation City, Gui Chen, Ji Ye and Yu Ran drink together and decide to go to the grasslands once their commitments in the city are fulfilled. Gui Chen is shocked to hear the emperor wants the Tianqu Warriors to murder Wu Yi and comes to his defence when the emperor goes behind his back for Tian Zhan’s help. Ji Ye and Yu Ran mourn Gui Chen's death. Yu Ran suspects Emperor, but Ji Ye suspects Wu Yi. Xiao Zhou begins to suspect the emperor. Though not the perpetrator, Wu Yi begins planning the next steps, knowing he will be the next target. Tian Zhan knowingly allows the death of Gui Chen because of his naïvety in believing peace is possible without killing. The emperor holds an elaborate funeral ceremony for Gui Chen, vowing to find and punish the perpetrators. Wu Yi attends to pay his respects despite being suspected of killing Gui Chen. He then gives a gift to the emperor from Bi Cheng, a seal specially made and left in Gui Chen's coffin when his body was burned. Xiao Zhou approaches the resurrected Asule, soon realizing that he has no recollection of his past self and is unable to speak. Bi Cheng brought him back to life for the sole purpose of being his tool to create chaos. Xiao Zhou goes to Yu Ran and Ji Ye for help in getting Asule as far away from the capital as possible, to keep him safe and in hopes of restoring his memories. Yu Ran and Ji Ye try to feed Asule but he's still timid and distrusts them. The emperor announces to Wu Yi that he is planning to abdicate the throne to a wiser successor. A banquet is held for the big announcement but all hell breaks loose when the imperial guards begin massacring everyone in the palace. The Li army comes to the aid of Wu Yi and there is all-out bloodshed. Yu Ran and Ji Ye try to leave the palace with Asule, but the violence triggers something within him. The emperor, hungry for power, has gone crazy. Bi Cheng controls Asule with his crows, sending him on a bloodbath to kill the emperor. The grand princess instead blames Wu Yi for regicide. Wu Yi and his army head back to Li state, knowing they will encounter the armies of the other states who have been ordered by the grand princess to kill him. Asule, Ji Ye, Yu Ran, Xiao Zhou, and Tian Zhan stay at a small village away from Revelation City, where Asule is slowly gaining bits of his memories. Tian Zhan is becoming curious about Yu Ran's origins. Wu Yi arrives at Shangyang Pass, awaiting the armies of 5 states summoned by the grand princess. Although Chuwei state did not want to be embroiled in the war, General Bai Yi joined the fray in hopes of saving Xiao Zhou, who he believes is still in Revelation City. After seeing his killers, Asule becomes more interested in his past, but Xiao Zhou is hesitant to tell him, fearing he will be further distressed. Bandits arrive at the village, and one of them tries to assault Xiao Zhou. Asule is paralyzed with fear, but the loyalists who killed him come back and slaughter the bandit, traumatizing Asule. The grand princess sends Ning Qin to Shangyang Pass to stoke the generals' lust for power by making an offer no one can refuse. While Ji Ye, Asule, Xiao Zhou and Tian Zhan are away, the village hands Yu Ran over to the bandits in exchange for their safety. On their way to Qing province, Yu Ran learns that her father was the leader of the Feather tribe and was killed. Now the Feather tribes have split and are at war with each other. Though hesitant at first, they acquiesce when Ning Qin offers a command of his envoy, followed by General Xi. General Bai Yi keeps his plans secret until the day of the battle. Ji Ye escorts Princess Ying Yu to safety, and Wu Yi is able to escape the battle, but the Li army has suffered heavy losses. The generals occupy Shangyang Pass for the time being. General Fei is colluding with the Grand Princess and tries to take Xiao Zhou back to the capital, but General Cheng intercedes, hoping to take her instead. Yu Ran sends a message to Ji Ye and Asule, informing them of her location, as she continues on with Tian Zhan to the Qing province. Bi Cheng arrives Shangyang Pass, turning wounded soldiers into his Bare Tooth minions. Jing Hong arrives at Revelation City with his army, telling the Grand Princess he is there to protect the city from the Bare Tooth army, should they break through Shangyang Pass. Bi Cheng appears in Asule's sleep, informing him that he is the root cause of turning wounded soldiers into Bare Tooth warriors. Knowing this, Asule decides he alone must stop Bi Cheng. All looks bleak with the Bare Tooth warriors surrounding the battered and exhausted soldiers as Asule confronts Bi Cheng. Worried, Yu Yi hurries to Qing province, upon hearing news that Yu Ran is there. The letter Yu Ran wrote finally reaches Shangyang Pass, and Ji Ye hastens to find her. Xiao Zhou's mother arrives Shangyang Pass, urging her to go back to Chu Wei with her, where she can be safe. Asule finally awakens from his coma with his memories restored. Asule makes plans to reunite with Yu Ran and Ji Ye in Qing province while Xiao Zhou goes to Chu Wei state with her mother. Plans go awry when Ning Qin arrives to take Asule back to Xia Tang state per Jing Hong's command. Unbeknownst to Asule, Xiao Zhou goes in his stead as collateral until his return. Ji Ye and Yu Ran are finally reunited. Yu Ran discovers a Valkyrie can revive the fossilized snow crane assassins, but it comes at a high price. Fearing the return of the Valkyrie to the Feather tribe, Min Ke hunts down young women who are born on a particular year and day.
