The drama will use an original story that differs from the manga, revolving around 12 people who obtain a “future diary”, which allows them to write down “predictions” of the future that will come true. However, they are all part of a game of survival, in which they must use their diaries to try to kill each other and be the last one remaining, earning a place on the “God’s seat”. Hoshino Arata is a lazy college student who doesn’t believe in spending effort or working toward the future. One day, he gets a diary (the “future diary”) on his mobile phone, and he becomes involved in the game of survival.
Episode 1: Mirai Nikki Episode 1
Hoshino Arata gets hold of a new phone which, as he excitedly discovers, has the unusual power to predict the future. At college he meets his fellow student Furusaki Yuno who seems to have a keen interest in him. Later on a friend calls Arata to a planetarium where he is attacked by a masked man; but luckily Yuno and his own father come to his rescue.
Episode 2: Mirai Nikki Episode 2
Arata tries to find his missing father. At school his friend, Rui, introduces him to another Mirai Nikki owner, Megumi. When Arata observes how Megumi is being held captive in a warehouse he comes to her rescue but eventually gets trapped alongside her and Yuno.
Episode 3: Mirai Nikki Episode 3
Arata stays over at Yuno's house. The two of them are visited by Rui's sister while Rui and his friend the dective, another Mirai Nikki owner, are investigating a case revolving around the mysterious phones. Later on Arata and Yuno are once again attacked by the masked man.
Episode 4: Mirai Nikki Episode 4
The five decide to infiltrate the Chronus office and try to figure out a way to stop Deus.
Episode 5: Mirai Nikki Episode 5
Yuno confronts Kibe, the president of Chronus, and mysteriously he ends up killing himself. Arata goes to Yuno's house to ask her some questions, and ends up being changed to her bed.
