Tang Fan solves a bunch of crimes all at once while enjoying his lunch. Sui Zhou finds and catches a great martial artist and brings him to justice. Tang Fan saves a girl but makes an enemy with a powerful lord's son. The Marquis's son dies mysteriously and Tang Fan is called in to investigate. He finds many clues that don't make sense, but everyone wants to just close the case. Then the emperor sends people to investigate and Tang Fan and his department are in trouble. Tang Fan gets the poison to investigate and his doctor friend, Pei Huai, ends up taking the poison to test the effects. They decide to investigate the Noble Consort and those around her. Tang Fan finds a clue leading to a Grandfather Liu. Wang Zhi finds Liu first and Liu dies before Tang Fan and Sui Zhou get there. Tang Fan starts teaching Dong Er to read. Sui Zhou goes to Jian City to check accusations that people are being killed and tortured in the prisons. However when they get there they find the official honest and the people there kind. Tang Fan has a feud with Duo Er La over some broken chopsticks and a cloak. Wang Zhi goes to a border town to investigate Liaodong affairs and reopen the horse market. Tang Fan looks at Sui Zhou's letter and determines that he's trapped, but the officials don't believe him. Wang Zhi shows up to save Sui Zhou, but Sui Zhou realizes he is an imposter. The real Wang Zhi is dealing with the tribes at the border and the mysterious missing horses for the horse market. Tang Fan comes up with a plan but Xue Ling gets arrested. Tang Fan ends up asking Duo Er La for a horse. The bad official tells the prisoners that Sui Zhou used to be an official, hoping the prisoners will kill him, but he survives. Wang Zhi finds a large number of horses, but the person says they aren't the stolen horses. Tang Fan arrives and he helps to solve the mystery of the missing horses. Episode 10: The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty Episode 10

The official tries to poison Sui Zhou in the prison, but someone else dies instead. They then decide to burn down the prison with Sui Zhou inside. Wang Zhi's man decides to help Sui Zhou escape, but he wants him to save everyone else as well. Dong Er learns to play Go. Three high officials show up in Jian City and Tang Fan accuses Huang Jinglong of abusing power, corruption, and killing people. Huang Jinglong says he has never heard of Sui Zhou and they go to the prison to check, but the prison is already burnt down. The coroner says there are no dead bodies. Then someone reports that all the prisoners are at the courthouse. Sui Zhou accuses Huang Jinglong of knowing he is an official and setting him up. Sui Zhou starts investigating a kidnapping case. Tang Fan's sister and nephew come to visit him. He Cheng has epilepsy and the doctor saves him in time. Dong Er was used as bait by Wang Zhi and she got kidnapped. Tang Fan is very upset. Duo Er La wants to help, but gets kicked out by Sui Zhou. Mr. Zhu is famous for helping others and Duo Er La goes to him for help. The kidnappers take one of the little beggars helping Wang Zhi. The police are investigating everyone leaving through the city gates. One suspicious character tries to bribe the officials and then pulls out a badge by Commander Wan. A female body is found and they ask Tang Fan to identify the body. The kidnapper goes to meet Commander Wan. Sui Zhou sees the kidnapper and decides to go check out the tea house. Episode 13: The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty Episode 13

Sui Zhou finds Dong Er. Wang Zhi follows the kidnapper to meet his boss and he tries to get out of it by showing Commander's Wan's badge and a ledger. The kidnapper dies and Wang Zhi has no more real leads. Wang Zhi meets Commander Wan and burns the ledger. Pei Huai is suspected of being a murderer and Tang Fan believes he is innocent. Episode 14: The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty Episode 14

Mr. Zhu donates all his money and Tang Fan is suspicious that he is too nice. They discover that the heart stealing murderer has taken Duo Er La and Tang Fan decides to pretend Pei Huai is the murderer so the real murderer won't kill Duo Er La. Sui Zhou goes to Mr. Zhu's place to search for a wanted criminal, but they are really looking for Tang Fan. Sui Zhou asks Wang Zhi for help. Wang Zhi saves them, but Mr. Zhu isn't arrested. The emperor kicks Tang Fan out of the capital so Tang Fan goes to visit his sister. He is upset at how his sister is treated. The grandparents take Cheng Cheng away and won't give him back. Sui Zhou investigates the massacre of the Yu family. The Yu survivor gives people money if they can find evidence that Wang Zhi did it. Random people keep coming in to say they killed the Yu family because they think they can get money. Tang Fan's sister wants a divorce if she can have her child. She gets tricked to give up her dowry without getting her child. Wang Zhi is suspended from his duties. While he is investigating the case, he encounters a bunch of people trying to kill him. Tang Fan creates a plan to trick his sister's greedy husband. Wang Zhi is in jail and the officials accuse him of things to the emperor. Tang Fan helps investigate the massacre of the Yu family and finally figures out the murderer. The emperor wants to deal with the problem in Yunhe and Wang Zhi suggests Tang Fan can help. Sui Zhou loses his position in the Imperial Guards because they found banned books in his house. Tang Fan thinks it is good he quit and that he should open up a restaurant. Wang Zhi takes him to see the emperor and the emperor asks him to deal with the problems in Yunhe. Tang Fan declines the job because the emperor wants him to go as a cover for Wang Zhi who will really do everything. Tang Fan agrees to go if he gets to solve it his own way. Wang Zhi goes to see Commander Wan and he thinks it is to bring poison for him to commit suicide. Wang Zhi is actually there to pick his brain regarding the mysterious deaths of officials in the court. Tang Fan gets special treatment and even a house from Boss Ma when he arrives. Tang Fan sees a protest and arrests the ringleader of the silver workers. Boss Ma shows Tang Fan a note that his son was kidnapped. The kidnappers have them follow a dog and then they get caught. Wang Zhi investigates the loss of money by melting through heat loss, but it is most likely embezzling of money. Tang Fan finds the missing son. Tang Fan arrests Li Mao. Boss Ma gets a visitor from the capital who warns him of Tang Fan. Tang Fan says he is under Wang Zhi's control, but they say Wang Zhi isn't a problem. The one from the capital doesn't trust Tang Fan and decides to kill him. Wang Zhi sends someone to Yunhe and Sui Zhou wonders if Wang Zhi wants to kill Tang Fan. Episode 24: The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty Episode 24

Pei Huai teaches He Cheng how to fight back against the bullies. Someone goes to kill He Cheng and his mom. Pei Huai visits and the house has been ransacked. Tang Fan is promoted and recalled back to the capital. Boss Ma gets to leave prison but is given poisoned wine to drink. On the way back Sui Zhou takes Tang Fan on a difficult journey and they almost die crossing a booby-trapped bridge. The emperor is worried about Wang Zhi, that he will change after tasting too much power. They decide to split up to protect Tang Fan. Duo Er La pretends to be Tang Fan and travels with Sui Zhou. Episode 25: The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty Episode 25

Someone impersonates Sui Zhou to do some dirty deeds. The crime is then reported to Wang Zhi, but Wang Zhi knows that it wasn't Sui Zhou because he hadn't arrived in the capital yet. Duo Er La has been poisoned by the arrow meant for Tang Fan. Tang Fan becomes the test subject for the antidote. Sui Zhou is arrested for refusing to explain his whereabouts. The imposter framing Sui Zhou is caught off guard when the master of the house returns. But the imposter did it while the real Sui Zhou had already been arrested, thereby clearing Sui Zhou of the crime. Sui Zhou is attacked and runs into the imposters. The imposters decide to rob a bank. They also help Sui Zhou when he is trying to bring ice to save Tang Fan. Sui Zhou searches for the imposters. Wang Zhi figures out that the mysterious object was the weapon that can cause an explosion. The doctor is at his wit's end and can't save Tang Fan. Sui Zhou joins the imposters in planning the robbery. He also sets them up to be caught, but his plans are thwarted by Commander Wan. The criminals hide in the brothel and take everyone hostage. Wang Zhi is also there and Commander Wan puts him in a precarious position. Commander Wan shoots arrows into the building hoping to kill them. Another official comes and suggests to smoke them out. Tang Fan decides to go inside to talk to the criminals, but they plan on setting fire to the brothel after he goes inside. He tells them to surrender otherwise the people outside will use it as an excuse to kill everyone inside. Hearing that they will set fire, Tang Fan spits blood and chaos erupts. Luckily the doctor has already figured out the antidote. Sui Zhou gets his job back, but he needs to start back at the lowest rank. Their latest case involves missing ice from the royal ice house. Tang Fan warns the seller that someone wants to catch them. The seller realizes that there is something wrong with Tang Fan. Sui Zhou catches the seller but then they are attacked by men in black. Turns out there is a secret tunnel. Pei Huai confesses his feelings for Tang Yu. The emperor has a new weapon in his war against another country, but the enemy also has a secret weapon of their own. Sui Zhou's hands shake uncontrollably. He also attacks people whenever he has a nightmare. Tang Fan introduces Qingge to Duo Er La and they hit it off. The secret weapon seems to be a spy in the palace. Everyone tries to solve Sui Zhou's nightmare problems. Tang Yu accepts Pei Huai's confession. The enemy plots to steal the design drawings for the crossbow weapon. Wang Xian is attacked for the design drawings, but he kills many of his attackers. He is still kidnapped along with the designs. Tang Fan examines the bodies who tried to steal the weapon designs and figures out there were two groups of people. Tang Fan figures out that Ding Man's handwriting resembles someone else's writing. Wang Zhi tells Tang Fan that he is the only one who can figure out who killed Duo Er La. Tang Fan goes to see Wang Xian and Zhang Gongzhu to interrogate them. Tang Fan asks to see all the files, and gets Wang Zhi in hot water with the emperor. Sui Zhou figures out that the explosive device might have belonged to Wang Xian. Zhang Gongzhu seems to be deliberately getting everyone to suspect him instead of Wang Xian. But they can not find any traces of Zhang Gongzhu or where he lives. A mysterious man goes to see the princess and says he can help save Wang Xian. Sui Zhou goes crazy during an interrogation. Tang Fan figures out that the mastermind may be the princess. Li Zi Long wants to work with the princess and get his hands on the explosive bombs. The princess surrenders as Zhang Gongzhu. She has made a lot more explosive bombs to avenge her father's death and she sets them off in the capital to threaten the emperor. The bombs are a distraction and they are really just breaking the princess and her Wang Xian out of jail. Li Zi Long wants to kill Tang Fan and Sui Zhou goes to save him. Tang Fan figures out that they were tricked and that there are more explosives than they thought. Li Zi Long decides to kill Wang Xian and the princess after he finishes making the bombs for him. The emperor gives rewards for their hard work but Tang Fan upsets the emperor again by refusing the promotion. A prisoner of war is returning home after thirty years. Tang Fan's first case after returning to his duties is General Gao is being sued for being an imposter by his wife. Wang Zhi is given the duty of figuring out his true identity. Wang Zhi gives Tang Fan Gao's medical record, but General Gao reveals his tortured and burned back. Sui Zhou goes to see General Gao to check for clues. He feels he acts too much like a general. Episode 42: The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty Episode 42

Tang Fan meets General Gao to clear up confusion about who he really is. Tang Fan realizes General Gao's testimony has loopholes and that he is in danger. General Gao captures Tang Fan and learns General Gao's real intentions. Tang Fan tricks General Gao and cuffs himself to him. Wang Zhi and Sui Zhou go to catch General Gao, but his family has already been transferred. The meeting is held by Li Zi Long to get revenge on Ming empire. Wang Zhi and Sui Zhou storm the brothel to find the conspirators. Wang Zhi gets there in time to see General Gao and Tang Fan helps him escape. General Gao meets Li Zi Long to confirm what he is planning to do. He brings a tied up Tang Fan as a present to Li Zi Long. Wang Zhi tries to figure out how they are going to assassinate the emperor and takes precautions before the ceremony. Li Zhi Long kills Tang Fan and tries to leave the city. He kills the getaway driver when then driver finds out it is Tang Fan. Li Zhi Long learns that General Gao was pretending to join them to learn their plan to assassinate the emperor. Wang Zhi arrests all the four marksmen before the ceremony. Wang Zhi promises to find Tang Fan. Wang Zhi tells Dong Er that Tang Fan is in trouble. Sui Zhou goes in search of the carriage driver. Li Zhi Long shows Tang Fan the explosive and makes him choose to kill one person or a million people. Sui Zhou learns that Tang Fan may be in the Iron Market and takes people to search. Tang Fan ends up leading the enemy to where the real explosives are hidden and they get stolen in front of him. Tang Fan fell for Li Zhi Long's trap and he wants Tang Fan to turn over the emperor to save millions of people. Everything works well until the fireworks reveal a danger in the sky. Tang Fan has the four archers shoot the explosives. Sui Zhou stops the fireworks, but then he quits because his commander won't listen to him to go save the emperor. Wang Zhi takes the emperor out of the palace but then they are surrounded by Li Zhi Long's men. Sui Zhou rushes in and takes the emperor out through a secret passageway. Officials go to arrest Tang Fan for letting the foreign archers out of the jail. Wang Zhi rushes out and is killed along with the fake emperor. Sui Zhou takes the emperor to the temple. Episode 47: The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty Episode 47

Tang Fan thinks he knows who leaked their plan. He miscalculated and didn't realize that some officials were in kahoots with Li Zhi Long. The only way to save the Ming Dynasty is to find the emperor and safely get him back to the palace. Dong Er is worried and goes back to the capital on her own. Sui Zhou hears news about Wang Zhi and Tang Fan. Wang Zhi contacts Ding Rong. Finally the three meet up to discuss plans remotely through secret messengers. Their plan got leaked again and Ding Rong has turned traitor, arresting Wang Zhi as an imposter. The queen goes into battle to bring the emperor back to the palace, but is stopped by Wan An. Tang Fan goes to get Sui Zhou to try the last ditch plan. A royal sword is brought out to let the queen lead her troops to rescue the emperor. The little beggars go to the temple to beg for food. Sui Zhou asks Zheng Ying for help. Tang Fan tells Qingge who her real enemy is. Wang Zhi escapes prison. Commander Wan confesses to framing Sui Zhou and ends up in prison. As Li Zhi Long is about to kill the emperor, Qingge attacks him and saves the emperor. There is an ambush outside the palace. General Gao shows up to stop everything.
