Baek Dae Gil and King Yeong Jo enter a match. Baek Dae Gil bets his life and King Yeong Jo bets the entire Kingdom of Joseon on the outcome. Baek Dae Gil is the best gambler in the Joseon era. He holds deep resentment inside but is also cool on the exterior. King Yeong Jo is a man who never lowers his head without a convincing reason. Meanwhile, Dam Seo exists solely to take revenge upon the king.
Episode 1: The Royal Gambler Episode 1
Even while his wife, Bok Soon, nags at him, Man Geum can't keep himself from having fun gambling. Hong Mae, the female owner of the tujeon room, hands Man Geum a wad of money. Man Geum says he will bet his wife if he doesn't have enough money. Bok Soon, dragged off by someone on her way home, ends up meeting Lee In Jwa. Then, Lee In Jwa hands a wad of money to Bok Soon. Man Geum, defeated by King Sukjon in a bet, loses Bok Soon. He returns home dejected and meets Lee In Jwa. Lee In Jwa informs Man Geum that his opponent in the tujeon room is the king. Man Geum seeks out King Sukjong and proposes another bet. Meanwhile, Bok Soon gives birth to a baby 6 months later. Rumours spread throughout the palace that the baby is not actually the king's child. Lee In Jwa proposes to Baek Man Geum that they an exchange the baby for a black pearl. Grandpa Goblin tells Man Geum he must not agree, but Man Geum ends up accepting Lee In Jwa's proposal anyway. Lady Sukwon arrives at just the right moment when the child's life is in peril. The child survives, but Lady Sukwon must return to her residence to be confined by Lady Jang's order. Meanwhile, time passes, and Dae Gil fights his way out of a crowd surrounding a cockfighting match. Dam Seo, dressed in Moo Myung's clothes, is engaged in a swordfight with Moo Myung. In front of the gambling room, Mutt Boy (Dae Gil) falls for Dam Seo at first sight. He steps up like a man to help Dam Seo in an argument with Gamoolchi, but rather is humiliated. Prince Yeoning, stumbling around drunk in broad daylight, meets Mutt Boy (Dae Gil) walking toward him, and stops in his tracks just in time at the swindler's calls.
